California, October 1, 2013-The standard EN ISO 13849-2 describes the subject of validation, as an extension to EN ISO 13849-1. One of the important steps towards safe machinery is validation. By validation we mean an evaluated examination, including analysis and testing of the safety functions, and the categories of safety-related parts of control systems. For example, validation is essential for proving that a machine is safe.This issue is handled by EN ISO 13849-2:2013-02 (Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part 2: Validation (ISO 13849-2:2012)). It was published as a newly revised, harmonious standard early in 2013 and is the main standard for the design of safety-related structures in the field of machinery safety. Its content expands EN ISO 13849-1:2008-12 (Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part1: General principles for design (ISO 13849-1:2006)), dealing with electrical and (programmable) electronic systems as well as other control technologies, such as fluid power technology.
